"Oh, man," said Jim as he pulled off to the side of the interstate when the "service engine soon" light came on. "Why did my car have to overheat now?" He had been driving for four hours so far. Just two more hours to go, and it was already midnight. He always dreaded driving back and forth between home and school during the breaks. This Thanksgiving had been a wonderful time. The food was delicious. His family didn't get into any arguments. But most importantly, he needed the time off from school. He put on his jacket, popped the hood of the car, and got out. He checked his radiator. "Yea, it overheated," he said to himself. "I just need to find a place to get some water." He looked around for any signs of civilization. There was nothing in sight but trees on both sides of the interstate and one of the yellow and black signs that meant deer crossing. There were not many cars on the road either. Off in the woods a distance on the other side of the road, he saw some lights. "That must be a house. Maybe they will give me some water." After checking to see if any cars were coming, Jim set out across the interstate. He stopped at the median. "Wow, interstates are wider than they look." During a break in the traffic, he set out on the other half of his journey. When he reached the other side, the young stag darted into the woods. He wanted to get away from the hard river of big metal things.
