Insane It was a typical day on the job. Henry was on his routine tour of his wing. He made sure all the patients weren't doing anything dangerous. He enjoyed his job. But he couldn't help but feel sorry for all the patients. Most of them were harmless, though there were a few he had to keep an eye on. "Henry," came Dr. Jones' voice from the Walkie Talkie he was carrying. "Henry come in." Henry brought the CB up to his mouth. "I'm here, Dr. Jones," he replied. "Henry, we need you in the lobby. We have a new patient. We need help taking him to his room." "I'll be there." Henry fastened the CB back on his belt. He ran to the lobby. He hated it when he had to drag new patients kicking and screaming to their room. He reached the lobby and saw the patient. He was obviously crazy. He was hysterical. Rich and Sam, two other nurses, were holding him down. "You must commit me!" the man yelled. "You must!" "Henry," Dr. Jones said coming from behind the admission desk. "I'm glad you are here. This man wants to be committed, but he won't settle down." "Why haven't you put him in a room yet, if he is willing?" Henry asked. "We are getting a room ready right now," Dr. Jones said. "We need you to help keep him calm." "What's his name?" asked Henry. "Chuck Mayer," the doctor replied. Henry went over to the man. Sam and Rich were still holding him. They were trying to keep him calm. Henry was known for his ability to calm hysterical people. "Mr. Mayer," Henry said bending down in front of the patient. "We are getting a room ready for you right now. Why don't you just relax. You will be admitted as soon as possible." "You don't understand," Mr. Mayer said. "I need to be locked up in my room now. It is almost night time." "Why do you need to be lock up before dark?" Henry asked. "I am a werewolf!" the man yelled. "Oh," Henry said. "We will get you locked up as soon as your room is ready." "Ok, his room is ready," Dr. Jones yelled from behind the desk. "Let's take him there." Sam and Rich helped Mr. Mayer to his feet and escorted him down the hall following Dr. Jones. Henry followed trying to talk with the patient. "I need to be locked up now!" Mr. Mayer yelled. "We are taking you to your room now," Henry said. "No! Right now! It's too late!" Mr. Mayer. He jerked away from the two nurses and ran down the hall. Rich, Sam, and Henry ran after him. "Mr. Mayer! Come back," Dr. Jones yelled. Henry saw through the outside windows that it was dark outside. The full moon was rising from behind the trees. The three of them split up to search for the missing patient. Henry looked in every hiding place he could think of. He could not find Mr. Mayer anywhere. Maybe Sam and Rich had better luck. Early the next morning, Henry went down to the basement. After a long night of searching for Mr. Mayer, he finally found him there sleeping in a corner behind some boxes. "Mr. Mayer," Henry said. "Mr. Mayer, wake up." The man opened his eyes. "Did I hurt anybody?" he asked. "No, Mr. Mayer," Henry said. "You didn't hurt anybody. We were looking for you all night." "At least I didn't hurt anybody," Mr. Mayer said relieved. "Let me take you to your room." Henry helped the man up and they both went to the room that was prepared for Mr. Mayer last night. Mr. Mayer seemed like a nice person when he isn't hysterical. Mr. Mayer liked his room. "I think I'm going to like it here. White is my favorite color," he said laughing. "It's pretty popular around here," Henry replied. "The door locks from the outside right?" asked Mr. Mayer. "I don't want to be able to escape when I transform." "It locks from the outside," Henry said. "And don't worry. We won't let you hurt anyone." Henry closed the door and left the room. Mr. Mayer definitely had a case of lycanthropy. He was sure it was the medical definition of the word. There wasn't any howling echoing through the halls last night. He wished there was, so that Mr. Mayer could have been found earlier. Sam, Rich, and Henry didn't get any sleep last night. ----------------------------- That night, before sunset, Henry stopped by Mr. Mayer's room. His curiosity got the best of him. He had to know what Mr. Mayer did during a full moon. He had an idea, but he wanted to be sure. He opened the door and walked in locking the door with his key behind him. "What are you doing here?" Mr. Mayer demanded. "I'm going to change soon!" "I am curious," Henry said. "I've always have been fascinated with werewolves." "Well, let me tell you. You are putting your own life at risk," Mr. Mayer said. Suddenly he screamed in pain. Henry backed up against the door. Mr. Mayer started convulsing. Then as quickly as he started, he stopped. He got up and started walking around on his hands and knees. He sat up and howled. Mr. Mayer then saw Henry and began to snarl at him. Henry knew this was what was going to happen. He had to be sure. Mr. Mayer was coming closer showing his teeth. "Mr. Mayer, snap out of it," Henry pleaded. "You are still a human. You are not a wolf." Mr. Mayer continued coming. He crouched getting ready to pounce. Henry knew there was only one thing that he could do. He didn't want to do it. But, he had to. He got on his hands and knees also. He started growling at Mr. Mayer. Mr. Mayer was surprised for a second, but he went right back to his snarling. Henry knew he had to carry this further. He had to finish this. He growled again showing his teeth also. But with this growl, Henry's teeth were sharp. His face became a muzzle while gray fur covered his body. He was not on his hands and knees anymore. He was on all four of his feet. His tail pushed out from his pants. He was in his wolf form. Mr. Mayer stared and then seemed to come out of a trance. "You... You... You're one, too," he said. Henry shifted back to his human form. "Yes, I am a REAL werewolf," he said. "And I'm not," Mr. Mayer said joyously. "I'm not a werewolf!" "That's right, Mr. Mayer. You are not a werewolf. You just thought you were," Henry stated. "You aren't going to eat me, are you?" asked Mr. Mayer. "No, I don't eat people," Henry said. "Now, Mr. Mayer, will you please keep this a secret?" "I will," Mr. Mayer said intimidated. "Good," Henry said. "Pleasant dreams, Mr. Mayer." He unlocked the door with his key and left the room. He didn't lock it behind him. In a few days, Mr. Mayer was released from the institution, and Henry was back to his daily routine.
